Blue biotechnology lectures by associate professor Stephanie Bordenave (La Rochelle university, France)

This year the Blue Biotechnology course for master students of Ecology and Environmental Sciences program at Klaipėda University was provided in collaboration with dr. Stéphanie Bordenave, an associate professor at La Rochelle University, France. The Blue Biotechnology course is designed to introduce students to marine biotechnology research, the application and use of marine organisms in biotechnology, and to review the ethical, legal, and intellectual property aspects of blue biotechnology. The professor introduced students to the analytical methods that are used in blue biotechnology as well as shared her research findings on the use of natural products from the marine resources for human nutrition and health. Dr. Stéphanie Bordenave since 2009 coordinated “Blue Biotechnology Master for a Blue Career” project co-founded by the EMFF program of the European Union. She is a director of “Applied Blue Biotechnology” master at La Rochelle University which explores the benefits of blue biotechnology to health, nutrition and aquaculture industries. She teaches basic biochemistry, nutrition, spectrophysical methods and how to use biotechnology to upgrade low-value biomasses from the aquatic environment. Klaipėda University and La Rochelle University belongs to EU-CONEXUS University network: https://www.eu-conexus.eu.
